An example of a first time custom canopy and the builder's comments on receipt
My definition of a custom canopy is a canopy I haven't made before. Here are all the ways I've made custom canopies:
- Full scale 3-view diagrams
- Builders have sent me canopy frames, and I've made a canopy to fit it.
- Builders have told me where I can go and see a canopy installed on an aircraft.
- Builders have sent me a cracked canopy. In one case the canopy was in three pieces. I reproduced a perfect canopy for the customer.
- I've been sent shapes made of fiberglass, foam, and plaster of paris. I, of course, reproduced the size and shape in clear plastic.
- Builders have given me a few rough hand sketches, some dimensions and a lot of verbal descriptions. With that I've produced a canopy they loved.
I am also willing to form plastic for products other than canopies. I've put optically perfect compound curves in plastic up to one inch thick.
